My external HD is--refusing to be recognized by my computer. It has a mix of work and personal files on it.
I am very cranky as a result. *sigh* *hopes computing services will be helpful* *does not want to lose giant pile of papers*
Meanwhile, as a distraction (for me, and maybe you too!) have a meme, stolen from hordes of people in the past day or so.
Name a character that you know I write or have written, and I'll tell you:
a. What initially prompted me to like the character enough to write about him/her.
b. One of his/her best traits.
c. One of his/her worst traits.
d. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character.
e. The story/thread/chapter/post/paragraph/tag/phrase where I feel that I truly captured the character.
f. My plans (if any) to write the character in the near future
Milliways and Wasteland are the primary sources of material, here.

a. I was really intrigued by the whole redemption arc, and the bare bones backstory we got for him in canon. I wanted to flesh it out, I wanted to see how redemption would or could work for someone like him. How do you counteract over a thousand years of evil? I'm still working on that, but it's been fun. (As for one specific moment? The part where the plans for destroying the Paraiko were laid out. DUDE. THAT IS TWISTED.)
b. One of his best traits is his strength of will. It's what keeps him going, what lets him achieve his goals, and what makes him such a fricking terrifying and unstoppable opponent. It is brilliant, and I want to see what he'll drive himself toward in the future--via gameplay. I have ideas!
c. His single worst trait is his sheer emotional retardedness. He has no capacity to really understand feelings, particularly his own. He does not know how to react to softer emotions, and his reaction to feeling hurt is often magnified far beyond reason. (HI LISEN). I like to think he's getting better at showing and receiving affection, but it is a slow, nay, even glacial, process. Oh Galadan. You've been making life difficult for yourself from the get-go.
d. Galadan is not particularly difficult for me, except when he is being clever. For that--I chiefly need to rely on handwavey and vague, and a scope large enough to lend itself to that kind of thing. Otherwise I am screwed, because he is much more clever and political than I am capable of being. Woe.
e. I think I caught him best (in his pre-redemption state) in the thread with Kim were he was VERY CREEPY. The one in-bar. I think post-redemption, the one that crystallized a lot of his position for me was the conversation with Jen, wherein I was able to establish how NOT REGRETFUL or SORRY he was. Because he isn't. And I think that lack of remorse, that lack of weepy regret for some very terrible actions--that's very central to his psychology. Because he CHOSE them, and it's not like he thought it was for the greater good or anything, it's not like he was blinded by grief or rage. He chose deliberately. And there's no--anyway. Yeah. That.
f. My current plans for Galadan include him giving up his day job to teach languages to middle schoolers, settling down with a wife and maybe kids, and living in a spaceship that occasionally visits the equivalent of suburbs. Maybe he'll buy a pony, too. We'll see.
